Pink HIIT on the Floor: NRG Fitness Marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Wednesday 7 October was not a regular dawn session at NRG Fitness. Our HIIT class at Pines Plaza, Junction, was guided by personal trainers Reece and Jessy, and members came ready to train and to show up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most of the floor wore pink. Most of the people in the session were women. Both things mattered.

Lace up in pink.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the pink was a simple act of solidarity. No speech was required. You pulled on a pink top, stood next to someone else who had done the same, and got to work. That is the vision we come back to at NRG Fitness: inspiring a healthier community, one person at a time. A healthier community is not only fitter bodies. It is people who notice one another, train together, and are willing to mark the things that affect the people beside them.

The session itself was HIIT in the way we run it: large bursts of effort, proper work, and an all-out sprint to close. HIIT is built on short, hard intervals and defined rest. On Wednesday that meant earning the recovery, then being asked for one more honest effort at the end. You did not need to be the fastest person in the room. You needed to be there, in pink or not, and willing to finish the sprint at your own hard pace.

If you have been meaning to join a class, this is the reminder. Check the timetable, book your spot, and come through. Wear pink while the month still asks for it. Tell the coach if it is your first HIIT session, and they will help you scale the work. The sprint at the end is the point. So is showing up for the people training next to you.
